Sarajevo, 22 September, 2014 – Yesterday's traditional half-marathon that promotes running and active living once again broke a record for the number of participants and the number of participating countries. Over 1,300 runners, both male and female from 30 countries, ran 21.1 km long section of this year's “Sarajevo Sberbank Half-Marathon”, running through the city's most beautiful areas.
Supporting this important sports project is one of the activities that Coca-Cola HBC B-H Sarajevo carries out within its program for promoting movement and active lifestyle – Movement is Happiness.
Alma Šahbaz, the Communication and Community Relations Manager at Coca-Cola HBC B-H Sarajevo, said: “We are glad to see that Sarajevo Half-Marathon’s importance grows every year, attracting more and more participants. Thanks to this, we are sending a much stronger message on the importance of movement and healthy lifestyle, which is one of the foundations of our corporate social responsibility.”
This year, the competitors were encouraged by a great number of citizens of Sarajevo, but also by supporters from all over the country and abroad. This year's male category winner was Stanley Kipruto, from Kenya, and the female category winner was Olivera Jevtić, from Serbia.
For the participants who found the half-marathon route hard, a recreational ''Novo Nordisk Fun Run Race'' was organized at the same time. The participants, the young as well as the older ones, ran a 4 km section with no difficulties. This race, which aims at promoting running and physical activity, also recruits future marathon competitors and is becoming more and more popular each year.
Erol Mujanović, the Executive Director of the Association “Marathon” said: “We are happy that this year's half-marathon broke a record in terms of the number of participants and that we proved that it was equally important for us, the organizers, as well as for the competitors from around the world. We would like to thank our partners, volunteers, friends and, of course, the athletes who participated, for their incredible support. This race, along with the traffic-free city center, marked this year's World Carfree Day.
