On Sunday, 16 September, NGO "Marathon” Sarajevo organized the sixth “Sarajevo Half-Marathon” and, for the first time, the four-kilometre race “Securitas Fun Run”. One of the main sport events in Bosnia and Herzegovina this year gathered 796 runners from more than 20 countries. “Sarajevo Half – Marathon” was organised under the auspices of the City of Sarajevo and in partnership with Coca-Cola HBC B-H and many partners.

Đuro Kodžo and Biljana Cvijanović, both from Bosnia and Herzegovina, are winners of the sixth “Sarajevo Half-marathon”. Đuro Kodžo, who is a second-time winner of this traditional street race, ran the 21.1 km in 1 hour 9 minutes, while Biljana Cvijanović, the winner in the category of women, ran the race in 1 hour and 17 minutes.

Erol Mujanović, Executive Director of the NGO "Maraton” from Sarajevo, said: “Our final goal is to promote Sarajevo as European city, known for its street races, and to have 5,000 participants in the marathon. That is why we are so pleased with the response and number of participants this year. It gives us additional motivation and hope that our goal will soon be achieved. However, it would be impossible without the support from our partners”.

Miroslav Živanović, Deputy Mayor of Sarajevo, said: ''I am very pleased to see that ‘Sarajevo Half-Marathon’ is growing and bringing more people to our city every year. After many events organized in Sarajevo during summer months, Half -Marathon is what keeps the dynamics alive”.

Alma Šahbaz, Coca-Cola HBC B-H Communications and Community Relations Manager, said: “Partnership on organisation of the ‘Sarajevo Half -Marathon’ is dedicated to the promotion of active and healthy lifestyles. We see it as an important contribution to the quality of life of our community and an excellent example of private-public cooperation in designing and implementing socially responsible projects”.

Aiming at promoting running and healthy lifestyle as well as preparing participants for the next half –marathon, as a part of the project, a school for running will be launched in 2013. The school is intended for beginners and all those who want to improve their physical condition, and running techniques, by training under supervision of experts.
