Sarajevo - Olimpija Half-Marathon marks five years of partnership in the promotion of active lifestyles and environmental protection
The NGO “Marathon”, Sarajevo City Administration and Coca-Cola HBC B-H d.o.o. celebrated five years of cooperation in the promotion of active lifestyles and raising awareness about the importance of environmental protection by organising the “5th Sarajevo – Olimpija Half-Marathon” on September 19th.
This year’s marathon, which brought together more than 400 participants from more than 20 countries, also celebrated International Car-Free Day.
The race, which covered 21.1 km and passed through the most beautiful parts of Sarajevo, was won in record time by Darko Živanović and last year’s winner Ana Subotić from Serbia Awards for the winners were presented by Miroslav Živanović, Deputy Mayor of Sarajevo and Mircea Draja, General Director of Coca-Cola HBC B-H d.o.o. Sarajevo.
Erol Mujanović, Chairman of NGO ”Marathon”, said: ” Our partnership, which started from the very beginning with the organisation of the first half-marathon, is celebrating a small anniversary this year. We are happy that the race is gathering an increasing number of participants every year, and that we are approaching our joint goal – organisation of the first full marathon in Sarajevo".
Mircea Draja, General Director of Coca-Cola HBC B-H d.o.o. Sarajevo, said: ”The Sarajevo-Olimpija Half-Marathon is an important event that successfully promotes an active life style, but also the City of Sarajevo as an important global destination. The partnership in staging this sports event makes an important contribution to the promotion of sport and the quality of life of the community”.
As in previous years, this year’s race also had a humanitarian element. The generated income was donated to the association “Centar za kreativno odrastanje” for the purpose of financing the education of children living under extremely difficult conditions throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
